Bung Remote

I have a bung Sky remote.  It doesn’t work unless you’re within 3 feet of the box.  I’ve even had the remote replaced.

So the next logical thing is to get the box replaced, right? Well I would – but it’s MySky and I don’t wanna lose all the movies & programmes I have yet to watch (even though if I haven’t watched them by now I’m probably not going to.)

But anyways… short story long, we recently turned parental lock on to the M level – to stop a certain red-headed 13 year old from watching that Geordie Shore dribble (you’re not missing much). Upshot of that is that at 930pm most nights, the parental lock fires on and we have to get out of our seats to do something about it.

Nah… that’s too hard.  So we go to bed instead.  GREAT for catching up on that extra hour of sleep lost to Daylight savings.  At least it would be if we weren’t tied to our computers instead.

*sigh*

Stupid technology.

Never Gonna Be The Same

Remember “Jet Pilot” (aka Tim Costley), the 3SQN RNZAF pilot with his now infamous piss take of fighter pilots called er…  Jet Pilot?  Well now he’s gone all serious on us and released a track called Never Gonna Be The Same.  It’s a tribute to the guys who died in the ANZAC day crash.  He’s put it up on iTunes for a measley $1.79 and all proceeds go to the charity they’ve set up to help out the children and dependents of the crew who lost their lives.  Great cause for the guys who lost their lives in service of our country.

BBQ Conversations

Don’t ask me how the hell this one came up at a BBQ tonight (Tom?)… but did any of you know that the original actor who played Tinky Winky (the purple Teletubby) was fired from his job after only 4 months for playing the role “too camp”.  Yup… But even better than that… apparently Dave Thompson (sworn heterosexual comedian) was last seen working as a naked balloon dancer.  It’s all true… check it out here (and yeah I also read it somewhere else besides People magazine!)

Bizarre what comes up in polite conversation…

Avatar 3D

WTF?  Just tried to find out where I could see Avatar in 3D.  Turns out nowhere in Hawke’s Bay is showing it.  So I used nzcinema.co.nz to find out where the nearest movie theatre is that is showing it.  Besides Wellington it looks like Te Puke.

???? Te Puke?!?!?!  Some tiny little theatre in a hick agri/horticultural town (no offence Te Puke) is showing Avatar in 3D but NOWHERE in Hawke’s Bay is??? What the HELL is up with that?!?

Cheap Lounge Suite

Got a spare $100k? How bout a new lounge suite then?

Yes… that’s right, I said one hundred thousand dollars.

“This Lounge suite is made from solid Kauri logs and stumps. There are four pieces. 1 couch 2 chairs and 1 coffee table. It is a one of a kind suite and a real wood enthusiasts dream.

The logs have been carbon dated at around 50,000 years old.”

You so have to see this to believe it. Take a look

History lesson

We Were SoldiersJust been sitting here tonight watching We Were Soldiers. One of Kirsty’s all time favourites, and one that has enough realism in it that even Father-in-Law likes it.  This is one of many times that I’ve seen it but one of the few times I’ve really watched it.  You know what I mean?

It also occurred to me that I have absolutely no idea about any of the why when it comes to the Vietnam war.  A WWII spitfire pilot told me the other day that I shouldn’t believe everything I read on the internet, however I chose to ignore the old bugger tonight and went off to read what Wikipedia had to say about the Vietnam War.  HO-LY-COW.  That country never stood a chance.

I’ve only read about a quarter of it so far and haven’t even got up to the bit where America sends troops in to the same volume that they do in We Were Soldiers (or Chickenhawk), but it’s a fascinating read.  For any of you that are history buffs out there… well you probably know it all already, but if not, I encourage you to link through and see what I mean.  Hollywood couldn’t write the kinda crazy history that Vietnam has had in the last 150 years. A real eye opener.

Quick update

Adelaide ROCKS!

Currently sitting in a Library in Lyndoch, Barossa Valley, just north of Adelaide.  LOVING the trip so far.  Been sitting on the deck reading “Chickenhawk” by Robert Mason (re-reading would be accurate), sipping 15yo Glenfiddich on the rocks.  Tough life really!!

Lots of photos – post em with some serious updates when I get back…
