Forethought and Preparation

One of the things you have to get used to when living in a different country to your family is how long snail mail takes to get between said countries. With nieces’ and nephews’ birthdays spread throughout the year and throughout two countries, it is a great way to hone your skills in forethought and being prepared. But is it possible to think too far ahead? Especially with kids?

I have one niece turning 8 in NZ and another turning 2 in Australia at the end of October and today I found myself buying birthday cards for them – almost 2 months early. Now this probably doesn’t seem like a problem to you and hopefully it won’t be. Hopefully it will all go to plan and I will congratulate myself on being the most super efficient and coolest aunty ever when my soon-to-be-8 year old niece receives her birthday present in the mail and loves her Hannah Montana personalised birthday card and matching watch and purse.

The thing is, I only found out she like Hannah Montana last night when I rang my sister specifically to see what my niece is into these days. I was all set to go for Bratz related presents. But apparently Bratz went out the back door sometime in the last couple of months and Hannah is now the favourite of all the cool girls in the know. But how long will she stay at the top? How long before someone cooler comes along and Hannah is thrown out the window? Please just let it be after Christmas or, at the very least, until after the mail arrives!!

Hannah Montana???? Could be worse… she could be into Billy Ray Cyrus.

Oh Gem Brats is soo for the younger girls you know! Hannah Montana is the rage amongst teeny boppers st the moment, also the veronica’s, both music and clothing. Britney Spears has made a comeback into whats hot for pre teens too.

Thought I would update this post and let you all know that I am the bestest aunty in the whole wide world and the universe too! Both of my nieces absolutely loved their birthday presents. According to my brother, the 2 year old niece insisted on putting my present on straight away and refused to take them off until she had to go to bed (before you start thinking crazy ideas – I got her clothes) and I have it on good authority that there is an 8 year old in Gizzy wearing a really cool Hannah Montana watch!

    I rock!

Yeah, that’s probably true – I remember when I was a kid it was exciting enough just to get something in the post that was addressed to me – it didn’t matter what was actually inside it :)
