job hunting
sooooooo….thursday already huh? had a job interview on monday, well that was what i thought it was, reality is it was more of an interest screening session. so no jobs on the table at this stage, however it must have gone well because ive been given a call back for December when there will be a cadetship offered, and of the four current applicants, im the only one with an engineering background/qualification, and it will be for a design/sales position. but heres the dilema; i finish in november, they advertise in december and award in january, but its not set in concrete that i have the job. whilst it is very much the job i want, i dont think its in my best intrest to wait for it and run the risk that i dont get it. especially as all other grad positions are either going or already gone now. so really my question is pursue the dream job? or simply apply for everything, and take the first offer to secure employment until im in a position to pick and choose?

I like the apply for everything and take what you can get. Potential employers would much rather employ someone who has a job already than a dead beat loser who hasn’t had a job in months.
Take that to the bank.
ok, serious question, and aimed at one of you who i know has experience here, having family in one city you want to spend weekends with, and working in another city/renting thru the week, how does it work? and is it worth trying?
It did work but it depends on your personality etc etc blah blah blah!
I was fine (most of the time) with Bren working in Welly but he hated the travel after a bit and unfortunately the money wasn’t enough to sway him to stay! lol
If the city is close then it should be sweet but we were 3-4 hrs apart so made a huge impact really…
If only he earned more then he could’ve flown and that would’ve been easier lol….
i think it would drive me mad not seeing (their not mine but im claiming them anyway) the kids and nikki, even though id be back for weekends, however the problem for me is that this is my first job, and the move is purely to get something/anything for the experience, rather than the money, which is the flow on effect that if its wellington or Auckland i have to go to, flying would be achivible, but cost of living vs my wage would restrict it severly…worst case im hoping for is that i can pick up a job within the south island in which case i plan to buy a caravan to live in, although that could be interesting in itself.
Yeah thats exactly why I did it Slink… experience. And as much as K jests about it, it was probably actually good for our relationship in some ways. I mean… Kirsty knows she gets along without me just fine so she was okay heheh. But seriously, missing someone can be a good thing. Makes you really appreciate the time you do spend together. And when you know it’s not permanent that makes it all the more easier. I still wouldn’t wanna do it again though!!
yeah trying to avoid it myself, rather suprising how fast the outlook can change, gone from bleak to now having work experience one day a week starting next tuesday with possible links to fulltime work, and an offer of a drainlaying appreniceship for next year if all goes to hell
