Life changes

I’ve had so many WOW moments this week that I’m probably going to bore you half to death talking about them.

Big Fat Geek Wedding

As a quick aside, it’s odd that almost everytime I type the word wedding it comes out as weeding on the first attempt. ANYWAYS!

Had a session with the Vicar last weekend and filled in a 160 (I KID YOU NOT!) question multi-guess personality profile type questionnaire. Apparently some whizz bang computer is going to tell us our differences and simlarities which should be interesting. It was a pretty cool experience though, as it kinda brought a lot of those “back of the brain” thoughts to the fore and reminded me (personally speaking!) about what a wonderful person Kirst really is. I’m sooooo lucky to have met her and I still think that every single day!

Movies that affected me

I wrote some time ago about the movie Garden State starring Zach Braff. I said at that time that it changed my life. I can’t recall why – I should probably watch it again!! I do recall that I became highly emotionally involved in it though – more so than normal. Well, short story long I found another movie that has done the same – and weirdly enough it stars (you guessed it!) Zach Braff. Seeing shorts for The Last Kiss I was kind of intrigued at best, writing it off as a ho-hum romantic comedy. I kind of accidentally saw it (if that’s at all possible!) when Kirst was out the other night and only intended having “a nosey at it”. I couldn’t keep my eyes off it!! Afterwards I described as the most horrible movie I had ever seen. And not because it was a bad movie – it was great! I absolutely loved it, but its one of those movies that you can’t help getting totally emotionally involved in. I actually found myself at one point going “no!!!” and shaking my head so violently from side to side that it made my neck crunch. I shan’t give the plot away at all, because I recommend it highly and you gotta see it all to really get it.

Basically put though, it’s an ordinary story about everyday stuff that happens to everyday people. It’s Hollywood leaving behind the happily ever-afters and showing you the grit of real life. That’s just my take on it of course… Maybe not one for the rugby-headed bloke (no offence Laz!) but wow! I was moved. I actually felt exhausted afterwards.

Music that moved me

HR lady lent me her copy of Al Jarreau & George Benson’s Album “Givin’ it up”. It’s old school modern jazz stuff (us older people would recall Mr. Benson I’m sure!) Not for the metal head or hard rocker amongst, just old school feel good music. Call it cheesy listening if you will, but sometimes it nice to just chill out to that kind of sound. I spend too much time listening to amp-me-up angry music. It’s no wonder I’ve turned into a grumpy bastard.

Excusitis cured

Today I walked at lunchtime. Not unusual, but today I did it in the rain. Track back to this morning and in the Gym you would have seen me running. Yes RUNNING on the treadmill. A leisurely 9km an hour, but I kept it up for 10 minutes. Which I was stoked with. I need to improve that, but what a big step. When I got home I jumped on the scales and noticed a 1kg reduction this week. I’ve lost NOTHING in weeks, so that 1kg was monumental. I’m so fired up to continue on this path… I just want MORE EXERCISE!!! NOW!!!!!

How’s all you lot doing? Great to see lots of discussion going on, but don’t forget you can post topical type things too! I’m sure with a coming election, someone must have SOMETHING to say about John Key, Aunty Helen or Winnie the Shit.

Have to say I’m largely unimpressed by the single. It’s like the band has gone “oh that track from our back catalogue would sound awesome mixed in with those 3 other tracks from the back catalogue”. It’s pretty much non-original from woah to go and mixes so many sounds of pre-existing Metallihits into one. Coming from someone considering themselves a huuuuuge Metallica fan, I’d rate it just as ho-hum as everything else outta their studio since the Black Album. That’s my 10 cents (used to be 5 til they took my Tuatara away)

A Zach Braff chick flick moved you? I will have to check it out with the usual suspects at our next chick flick night. It better not be crap!

Yeah, it fully did!! I spent the first half of the movie going “nooooooo don’t do it” and the rest of the movie feeling incredibly uncomfortable watching a guy struggling with a position I’ve sooooooo been in before. I guess I just related to it all too well. Or used to. As stated on other posts, I’m a good boy these days.

Sounds like my reaction to Anger Management first time round – I was really close to walking out of the movie theatre on that one – just couldn’t stand watching Adam Sandler going through all that.

Mmm I never finished watching that one either. I’m just used to Sandler being overtly funny – not picked on like in that movie. Click is good though – good mix of silliness and seriousness.

oooooo I take back that comment I made about the new Metallicats album… The single (The Day That Never Comes) has grown on me… but the rest of the album?? AWESOME! Just Awesome!! Have just finished listening thru the first time and can’t WAIT to have another go! Just fantastic.
