Politics over Lunch
I don’t usually do politics, but I found an interesting article thanks to a friend on Facebook who reposted a link that one of her friends posted… Still with me? It’s in regards to John Key’s comments about Chris Carter, Labour MP who is on “sick leave” after being caught out bagging Phil Goffs *cough* leadership. If you’ve been living under a rock (or out of the country) you can read about it on stuff.co.nz
So here’s Jackson Jame’s Woods Open letter to John Key
I even signed up to this guys WordPress site so I could comment. Wonder if he’ll moderate my comment? If not then this is what I had to say:
I disagree. Completely.
As per usual the media has put a slant on it by offering a small snippet of what John Key ACTUALLY said. As evidenced on the link you provided to Stuff, he said that Carter should be made to provide a medical certificate as is standard practice for every OTHER kiwi (you know… us people who DON’T earn $2000 a week from the public coffers?) has to if they have 3 or more days off. I’m pretty sure there’s doctors out there capable of diagnosing mental illness, right?
I think the whole thing is laughable at best, and while I disagree with Carter being off for months on his publicly funded “sick” leave, I agree with his sentiment that Phil Goff won’t lead Labour to a win. If the man focussed more on ACTUAL politics than bagging every decision National made then I (and maybe other NZers) might believe he has any sort of credibility as the opposition leader.
Agree with me anyone?

I agree with you! Also what pisses me off is the fact that Chris Carter (and his partner if they are traveling together) also get 90% off their air travel for the rest of their lives because he was a long term MP. If he has been ousted from parliment then he shouldn’t get any perks – he has had enough! I am sick to death of my taxes going to pamper these MP’s who don’t do anything to better our country!
And on the topic of Labour being crap: Found this gem in the Parliament archives:
ref: http://www.parliament.nz/en-NZ/PB/Debates/Debates/e/0/0/49HansD_20100527_00000025-Questions-for-Oral-Answer-Questions-to-Ministers.htm
“Hon Dr NICK SMITH: I seek leave of the House to table the Department of Conservation approval, signed by Chris Carter, for the mine in Paparoa National Park.”
Sorry what? Labour mining in National Parks? Rich.
im all for mining. give slink job security…dig up your yard!
Thats typical! Dig up a National Park then fuck off on the tax payer money to escape criticism!
its called creating a tourist attraction haha glow worm caves anybody?
Sorry your comment didn’t get approved for ages – it was that I’m slack, not because of the comment! It’s up now.
Thanks Daniel! Appreciate you taking the time to approve the comment and to come and read what I had to say!
I also apologise for not approving your comment — I’m also slack, perhaps even slacker than Daniel.
I agree with what you said to an extent. However, the PM dealt with the issue in a way that was not statesman-like. The point still stands that no matter how much of a dick Chris Carter is, it’s not really Key’s place to comment. And it’s definitely not his place to comment on the state of his health; just like you wouldn’t want one of your co-workers putting the boot into you if you were sick and off work.
No, I wouldn’t want my workmates putting the boot in… but my boss? They probably deserve to have a say…
