Snow!!!

Wow! Looks like every imaginable part of the country got snow today… Except us!  We admittedly got more snow on Te Mata Peak than I’ve ever seen before, but none down here at home…

Any of you other TGMers get any?

Wellington and Paraparaumu were both under snow! Kids loved it but they are now over it.

Yeah everyone here keeps talking like we missed out… but I’m guessing it wouldn’t take long before we were over it too!

Better late than never but here is Larry’s run down of big snow 2011!

Well first things first, on the 25th of July came Taranaki’s first big dumping of snow, I was alerted by txt at 6.30am that Stratford was under a thick coat of the white stuff.

What I didn’t realize was how heavy of a snow it was, the first place we came to had about an inch over the ground and it was still falling but when we into Stratford itself, it had stopped falling and was about 3-4 inches thick.

However when we got to our Access Point in Mahoe, I was shocked, it was at least a foot deep and almost 2 foot in some places!, I had never seen anything like it that far down the mountain. And it was powder, not the usual snow turned ice, but powder!.

Then on the 15th of August came yet another heavy snow fall, but this time it was far more dispersed. Without a word of a lie, it had been snowing in Inglewood when I got to work. Funnily enough I got to work to find no-one around, they were out checking on “the horse’s” (Enter the Tui Slogan here!) So I made a coffee, rolled a ciggy and went out on the deck, and a wee while later it started snowing again!.

Now I was born and raised in Stratford and lived the majority of my life there, but I have never before seen anything like the snow Taranaki got. New Plymouth got a very light touch of snow in the afternoon, so did Rahotu (West of Mt Taranaki/Egmont) The hills around Tututawa (East Taranaki) were covered and it was as far south as Hawera.

Check out my YouTube channel: lazmancommeth for some vid’s my boss took, truly wonderful stuff!.
