With my recent interest in using Skype, I decided to fire it up on my system and used an old Prezzy Card to credit my Skype account. With my phone costing me $0.49c per minute and a son in hospital (s’okay, he’s just got a nasty flu apparently and should be home soon) itching to hear from me, I decided to give SkypeOut a try.

Here’s the deal… I called the hospital, got put thru to his ward and spoke for a total of almost 6 minutes. And what did it cost me? AUD$0.23c. Yes… that’s 23 Australian cents. A damn sight cheaper than the NZD$2.94c it would have cost me using my cell phone even WITH the exchange rate.

How white and nerdy am I?!? Awesome! I worked out too that the $3 (35 minute) call we placed to Aussie in the weekend would cost us around NZD$1.10 using Skype. Double awesome. I’m dead keen to get a Linksys CIT400 Dual Mode Internet Telephony Kit with Integrated Skype now. Replace the old Uniden cordless at home and allow us to Skype, SkypeOut AND landline call on the one device – and you don’t even need yer PC on for this one, it has Skype built in. Simply amazing…
