taking advantage
i was going to post about what i’ve learnt in engineering thus far…but i went to work, and came home hot under the collar so now im going to share that instead…
…its no secret that i work for woolworths, and have done for some time. when i moved down here i scored me a sweet as transfer. four weeks later i threatened to, and then handed in my notice, due to the hours being too inflexible, and then also being bulled and guilt tripped into doing extra hours. eventually, (on the last night of my notice) they offered my less hours and earlier finishes. i took it. fast forward 3 weeks. its Monday, and i only have to stay until 2230, thats what it says on the contract that i signed, and which my manager signed. now seeing how far behind the crews were, i offered to stat until 2300. i mean i thought that was reasonable, seeing as i got nothing on afterwards. skip foward to 2300 now, and its knock off time, and simon and i are heading for the door. “where do you think your going?” says my manager. “its 2300, im going home.” “you said you would stay until 2400.” “no i didnt, i said 2300.” as you can see this went on for a bit until simon sheepishly said, “actually he did say 2300.”
now im generally a nice person, and will normally volunteer myself for extra effort or duties, if it benefits the team or the cause. im also extremely stubborn, and if pushed will push back harder. by the point simon steeped in, i was ready to let her have it, my next line would have been,”maybe you want to have a look at my contract, cause last time i checked i can walk out any time after the finish time stated on the chunk that you signed. and if you dont like that then maybe i should just hand in my notice now and go elsewhere. dont think i will? then i suggest you look back three weeks, and remember that i dont even need this job.” i refuse to be taken advantage of…in fact i now will offer no more extra hours, nor will i take extr shifts. next holidays i will be taking two weeks off and heading north…weither im granted leave or not, this will happen. i dont care anymore, cause i have been pushed as far as im prepared to be pushed. in fact if she continues, i will hand in my notice, and be rid of woolworths, only this time they will only get the one week i have to give instead of the generous two i offered last time.
