Voluntary?

For those that have no idea, Kirsty and I run an Air Training Corps unit here in Napier.  This is something we do on a voluntary basis, and if anyone asks me why I do it I usually tell them “because my wife makes me”.

Of course I’m joking.  I get a huuuuuuge kick out of helping teenagers to experience opportunities and instruction that they might not otherwise get exposed to.  But sometimes… just sometimes, it’d be nice to have a break!

As you all know, three weekends ago I attended WordCamp NZ (which has nothing to do with Cadets).  The weekend after that I went to Ohakea for Officer Update Training (which I blogged about over here).  This weekend just gone I found myself back at Ohakea for the Central Area Unit Commanders Conference.  Technically that’s Kirsty’s gig, but with the little guy in tow it would’ve been pretty full on for her so I was sent in her stead.  This weekend coming we’ve got Saturday taken up by the East Coast Inter-unit Sports Weekend.  And the weekend after that?  I get a weekend off that I can spend with my family… my beautiful, wonderful family.

Ya ever get that feeling that yer going a zillion miles an hour and that you’re doing it all on your own (even if you’re not)?  How bout that one where you’re permanently tired and suddenly find you’ve become a non-functioning member of society because you don’t have the energy left to grunt let alone communicate?  Welcome to my world.  I’ve been such a prat in the last month or so, using my busy-ness as an excuse to switch off from everyone around me.  I’m sorry folks – especially Kirsty, my lovely, gorgeous, long suffering wife!

I’m going to try something new from now on – I’m going to try and get out of the correct side of the bed each day.  That’ll be a good start.

Completely off the topic… LOVING Revolution by the John Butler Trio.  Always been a sucker for a muted guitar (bass or otherwise).  No idea what I’m talking about?  Check it out…
