waiberia…my reflections
what i is about to show you is the proof that i was in waiberia little over 4years ago last week…having seen the photo of gilliland i spent a couple of days pondering where i had seen him prior, and then moon reminded me of my river crossing when he mentioned the photo he was shown…what follows are 3 photos of me in that fridgid stream 4 yrs ago and also of one of our groups in zone four on a good day…i no longer have the photo but there is one of my group on that same ridge 24hrs later in what most definatly was a foot of snow…ahh waiberia…..

Picture #2 – thats the one they brought up on screen during our lesson.
Picture #4 – I know THAT place! That’s atop Mangaio if I’m not mistaken. Lion and King are out off the right of the pic with Norrie back and the right of the photographer. That plain in front of the group is the LAV range and Club Med is tucked away at beneath the top of that spur you can see in the mid-to-back right of the image… right?
you are correct mr moon…lav range isnt visable though…thats zone 2 and is across sh1…but yes club med is to the right slightly…good times…thats where we spent anzac morning 2005, in 2 ft of snow at -9.5…until they decided the auckland component of our course were inadaquetly prepared and hauled us all out on mogs down the middle of a black iced sh1 which was closed to public…
We had nothing but sunshine… and oodles of it. I feel mixed emotions on that one – somewhere between bloody glad and deeply miffed that I missed out on something.
re: pics 1 and 2, didnt anyone slip over and pull the whole line in?
not that i remember…the flow is from me to the other end and back then i was a lil hefty, so i made a bloody good anchor…
yea hypothermia sucks the fun outta snow…my hobnails weren’t particularly great at keeping warm…
