Yay for me
I’m very proud of myself today. We went mountain biking in the Redwoods this afternoon and I did really well! Sure, I walked two rather gnarly downhill sections and one uphill when my foot slipped off the pedal and I lost my momentum, but otherwise I was smooth and rather impressive, if I do say so myself.
The thing with me is I’m a control freak, particularly when it comes to speed. Brakes and I are great friends. And anyone who has been mountain biking knows that you need the speed to keep your momentum up and get up the hills, to keep the ride flowing. Well, today I built up my confidence and let loose – perhaps a little too loose in some places, but I didn’t fall off and have no injuries so it’s all good. And I loved it! I will admit that sometimes I have moments when I’m riding when I think to myself “why am I doing this? I’m really not enjoying this” But today I loved every minute of it and was disappointed when we looked at the time and realised we had to call it a day. Even worse was that we then had to pack up our new bikes (bought in Dunedin 3 weeks ago) and put them into storage until we move to NZ permanently (hopefully before Sept 2009).
But it has given me a renewed view on mountain biking and we can’t wait to get back to London and get back into the forest near our house there. It’s nowhere near as good as the Redwoods, no proper ‘mountain bike only’ tracks and as they are shared by horses and walkers, often hazardous for many reasons. But they will be good to practise on, especially as there are still a few tricks I need to learn – like how to jump over obstacles or small drops.
So, until we return, Redwood Rocks!!!!

You go girl!! Thats fantastic, great to hear you having crazy mad fun. And keeping your bones in one piece. Mountain biking is a lot of fun and I agree Rotorua does have some pretty good tracks for it.
try urban freestyle…you just make your own track…thats how i do it down here…mind you ive almost killed another bike doing it
Chicky babes stick to the tracks for good reason dude. So we can be found if we break, so we can be found if we get lost, and so we can be found if our bike dies.
