New family member
On Thursday there’ll be a new addition to the Moon family. And why is this in the News section – a section typically used for technology info? Well, by family I mean our network. And why the Moon family? Well, as many of you may (or may not) know (but will now), I have a bizarre fascination with naming all of my PC’s after moons from our solar system. My trusty beasty is my desktop machine Luna, who after many, many upgrades and revisions – I am sad to say – is about to superseded. Roll in the sleek, shiny, uber over-powered, Vista running Toshiba A200 PSAFCA-01H00J.
The as-yet unnamed beast is the first laptop on our network (well… the first we OWN after the ATC laptop) and is serious powerhouse with a 2.16GB dualcore (4.32GB in theory) processor, with 2GB of DDR2 RAM and a dedicated 256MB nvidia GeForce Go7300 GFX card, dual layer burner, HDMI output (High Def telly), 802.11G wireless, bluetooth (yay I might actually find a use for the Bluetooth on my phone!), built in webcam, 200GB SATA HDD, 15.4″ Widescreen… The only stink thing is that as the business is buying it (yes I must be making too much money!!) I have to wait til THURSDAY to get it!! GRRRR. This is due to having to Xfer the money to MY bank account and then go in and pay for it (no credit card, eft or chq book on our bizzo account you see). We agreed to buy it on Saturday and I had no way to xfer the funds before having to come back here for work today 
Anyways… so the naming must begin. I’m going to retire Luna into a Media Center project running Ubuntu and MythTV (hopefully!!), so I’m either going to rename it and pass it’s moniker to the new beasty (my own machine HAS to be called Luna… it always HAS been…) OR simply give the laptop and beasty/sleek/sexy/generally-well-fitting name. And it HAS to be the name of a Moon. Thanks to Wikipedia, I’ve found a list of our solar systems’ moons . This is the highly edited list (removing the gay/crappy/too hard to pronounce names) to chose from:
Ariel, Atlas, Caliban, Callisto, Calypso, Deimos, Europa, Galatea, Ganymede, Halimede, Helene, Hydra, Hyperion, Io, Leda, Linus, Luna, Mab, Metis, Miranda, Naiad, Nereid, Neso, Nix, Oberon, Ophelia, Pan, Pandora, Perdita, Phobos, Phoebe, Prometheus, Prospero, Proteus, Puck, Rhea, Romulus, Setebos, Sycorax, Tarvos, Telesto, Tethys, Thebe, Titan, Triton, Umbriel
(Names that are struck out are already taken by machines who frequent our network).
What say you, oh readers? I’m partial to Romulus (co-founder of Rome) and Triton (starts with T… just like Toshiba).

Keep diggin that hole Mandz… he LIVES in Hawkes Bay, but as anyone in Hawkes Bay will tell you, unless you were here before the great Quake of 1931 you AREN’T yet a local. Therefore he’s FROM where he came from before that.
